Doran George, Ph.D.
Dr. Doran George brings together thoughtful reflection with creative exploration of the body in erotic practice. This reflect’s Doran’s work as an academic and choreographer as well as a teacher of bodywork, dance, and ritual. As an avant-garde artist, Doran stages contemporary performance, and building upon a history in social work, Doran also uses dance as a healing practice in various communities. In all cases, the work entails creating performance rituals that, through audience participation, challenges sex-negativity as well as other limiting ideas about the body, and invite radical forms of intimacy. The aim is to cultivate mindful individual members of vital, strong, and supportive communities. The performance work is informed by Doran’s doctoral research into the history of Somatic training, and current scholarship on how we embody and resist norms of sexuality, gender, and of the body more broadly.
